General Motors: Global Architecture Studio Project: “C.L.E.V.E.R.” (C-segment, Lightweight, Electric, Vehicle, Extended, Range) Concept Vehicle, Color & Trim exploration proposals: “BLUE STEEL & GRAPHITE” Involvement:
As part of an Advanced Development Project, the C-LEVER Concept Vehicle was to be a vessel to display various long term Design thinking that was at least 8-10 years out.
The challenge was to design exterior colour proposals that appeared contemporary, but also not feel dated by that point in time. “Blue Steel” impacts by pushing to the darkest reaches of Blue. Accomplished by fine Xyrillic metallic, this is a new color for the upscale luxury market that isn’t afraid of understated flair. Inspired by contemporary machined finishes, Graphite is a new look inside the Grey color space. Borrowing from Anodized aluminum, Graphite celebrates the surface reflection by adding a hint of red to give the color a bit life. This color brings Sophistication, Precision and Technology to the grey palette.
C-LEVER Color & Trim exploration (MANTIS) Involvement: The challenge was to design interior proposals that appeared correct and contemporary, but also not feel dated for that point in time. With the focus being technology, this “Mantis” interior took a snapshot of masculine technology items and softened their edges with a friendly turn toward greens. Traditionally this shade of green has a military feel, but paired with lime accents and natural patterns, a forward looking version of the Tech interior unfolded as new look at Green=Eco emerged.
C-LEVER Color & Trim exploration (ATMOSPHERE) The challenge was to design interior proposals that appeared correct and contemporary, but also not feel dated for that point in time. Inspired by a mid-winter hike in the Michigan woods, this “Atmoshpere” proposal takes a new approach to the eco conscious interior with fabric patterns based on tree branches and a color that is equally warm as it is neutral gray with a pure clean white decor.
Interior Decor / Exterior Paint: New Color Development Involvement: Inspired by contemporary machined finishes, Graphite is a new look inside the traditional Grey color space. Leaning toward Knurled and Anodized aluminum, Graphite celebrates the surface reflection by adding a hint of red / blue to give the color a bit life. This color brings Sophistication, Precision and Technology to the grey palette. Accomplished with Satin Gloss or machined texture, this is a new addition to the contemporary Grey color arsenal.
Interior Decor / Exterior Paint: New Color Development Involvement: Inspired by the contemporary appeal of the Graphite color space, Blue Steel builds on that color by adding Indigo and pushing it to the darkest reaches of the Blue color space. Inspiration has been as limitless as the darkness of the solar system, while the smallest of light sources reflects that familiar cold azul hue back to the eyes, Accomplished by anodizing or fine Xyrillic metallic, this is a new color for the upscale luxury market that isn’t afraid of understated flair.
